This is the entire news item from today's New York Times:
I want to know what happened and whodunit!
A man believed to be in his 40’s was found dead on a West Village street yesterday, his body suspended by a studded leather collar around his neck from the spoke of an iron fence, the police said. The cause of death was unknown, and the medical examiner’s office said an autopsy would be conducted today. The police did not know the man’s identity, officials said. Witnesses said he was in black leather clothes and gloves and had a black mask covering his face. His body was discovered dangling from a three-foot-high fence in front of a four-story building at 424 Hudson Street shortly before 7 a.m. and bore no obvious signs of trauma, the police said.

Tough being a superhero
Date: 2006-09-29 07:10 am (UTC)Leatherman called the cat again. It just looked at him, and turned awkwardly on its narrow ledge, before calling for help.
Leatherman looked around. Did he need to use his awesome superpowers for this rescue? No, he could just climb up on the fence and lean over. No need to get out the Cosmic Crystal and go through the whole routine of holding it up to the sky, invoking the power of the Spirit of Leather, having the lightning flash and the thunder roar. Not to mention the theme music.
Besides, it might frighten the kitten away.
He held out his hand, nice kitty, kitty?
Nope. No help for it. He hefted himself up on the railing. seized one of the metal spikes to steady himself, and seized the kitten in his gauntlet.
It wriggled free, ran up his arm, slashed at his neck and was gone. Leatherman made a swipe for it, missed his footing, felt his Cosmic Collar catch on the spiked fence, and watched as the Cosmic Crystal, its thong severed by the razor claws of the hurtling cat, tumbled through the grate below him.
His last printable thought was that he should really have stayed home with a can of dubbin.
